    819 Pro vs. 919 ProXP

Thinking about boat replacement and looking at Phoenix. Looks like these 2 models have the same basic meawsurements/specs. One is rated for a 200 and the other is rated for 225. Why? What is the difference in the hulls of these 2 boats that causes the different ratings? Thanks!

They share the same great hull. 819 is more of a price point with the 200hp
919 has more standard features and 225hp rating.

    You can buy a 819 with a 250.

Everything is the same just better upgrades and rating on 919.

I have an 819. Sometimes I wish I had that extra 25HP. But the hull fishes bigger than a 19 fter. If I was running a heavier load and fishing tournaments all the time, I'd lean towards the 919. Otherwise the difference is negligible.

One of the largest Phoenix dealers in the country told me the 819 plate could be provided with a 250 rating.

I find that very hard to believe.

I imagine there's some misinformation out there about swapping plates. Far as I know Coast Guard would never accept something like that and neither would an insurance company.

Going by the Coast Guards formula for boats under 20' it ain't happening.

That is what I was told, however in looking at the regulation the max hp would be 225. 19'8"*8' = 157.28 (157.28*2) -90 = 224.96 (round up to 5hp). The weight of the ProXs is the same from 200-300hp so there would be no effect other than increased speed, which is apparently not the basis of the rule if you look at an Allison with a 200hp, but I get it.

I thought the max hp rating for the 819 is 200 and the max hp rating for the 919 is 225, but the hulls measure the same length & width, so I'm scratching my head and wondering why unless the 919 has a heavier hull or thicker transom? If they have an identical hull, why the different plate rating? You don't have to buy the biggest motor a hull is rated for, so why aren't they rated the same?

The standard packages are different. More standard features come with the 919. I'm sure there is some marketing hokus-pokus reason for why they do it this way. Same, exact hull.

They will both run good no matter what. The 819 is basically a Ford XLT and the 919 is the raptor. Both great, but 1 is going to have a little more features and HP.

Since they are the same hull... say you are someone that keeps their boats a long time, then if the outboard shot craps and you needed to repower why shouldn't you be able to repower a 819 with a 225 and not run afoul of the Coast Guard or your insurance company. How are you going to be able to do that if the plate says 200 hp?

It's a marketing deal. It, along with changes to standard equipment, allows the 819 to come in at a lower price point. The hulls are literally identical. And it is true that you can put a smaller than mx motor on a boat, it kills resale value to not have the max HP hanging back there.

You aren't. Good luck getting that insured.
