Rivet or screw for gas shock install on deck lid

So I have to re-install a gas shock bracket to my front storage box deck lid on my 1995 Ranger 492 VS (if this matters) , it appears the old mounting location has worn out over time and finally gave. I plan on moving the bracket over a couple inches and re-installing it. I am wondering if I should use rivets like it was originally secured with or if I should use screws? Any advice is also greatly appreciated, I have never used a river gun before. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the the responses, I actually went back with rivets as that was how it came from the factory. I used 3/16"-1/4" grip range aluminum rivets with a little adhesive caulk and it work perfectly. Very strong hold and bond with the deck lid.
