    Atlas Jackplate problem

Over the weekend my Atlas JP decided to stop working. It is in the lowest position now. I can run the boat no problem, but i cant raise the Jackplate. The switch on the steering column works when lowering. I can hear the actuator trying to lower it, but its all the way down. When i try to raise, i just hear a clicking sound each time. Any idea how to tell if its the relay gone bad? Or if the actuator is bad? I read that you can jump the blue an green wires direct to battery to test it. However, I am not sure how to access the wires. They are expoxied in the relays. Is there a way to jump them without cutting the wires?

The up actuator will need to be replaced. Not sure if they are separate on yours or one unit.

Thanks. I have only seen the replacement motor for sale from TH Marine. I guess its not a separate motor. I will see what i can find out though.

It is a small black box that should be screwed to the inside of your transom. Go to T H Marine and look in the replacement parts on the same page as the jack plate below the reviews. It is the first part displayed and is called the relays.

Yes, it definitely has two relays. They are not part of the actuator tho. i am trying to find out how to test to see if a relay is bad or if the actuator is bad. Replacement actuator is 500-600.00 looks like. Relays are around 150-160 i see.

Get with Rich @ Hydrilla Gear. I think he does Bob’s relay retrofit kits due to all the problems he has seen with the atlas relays.

Or, simply refit with their newer relay harness (with replaceable relays). It's a simple polarity-reversing system, just like the trim system on your engine.

A buddy helped me rewire the relays. Got heavy duty 40 amp relays from Amazon for 26.00. It was the up relay that was bad. Changed them out to the new relays. Saved a bunch and it works like a champ!

Just an update. These relays have failed twice now. About to replace again this week.
