    361v prop help

I have an '89 361v with a '96 175 EFI with a 25p 4-blade trophy plus, propshaft is 3.5 below pad. It gets out of the hole pretty decent but I feel like I should be getting more top end. Best I've gotten was 68 mph (gps speed) by myself with one tank empty running on the Chattahoochee River down current with the current ripping. Went out yesterday with two full tanks and a buddy and I was only getting like 62 at 5600 rpms. My mechanic said I should make the switch to a 24p tempest plus but I feel like I should be topping out at over 70 with the right setup and I don't think a 24p tempest will do it. Also don't want to ruin my holeshot.. Anybody have any thoughts? Even just to say that I'm wrong thinking I should get better than 70 lol

You might benefit from the 24p a little better, especially with the tournament load...but I wouldn't think you would get more top end out of that boat...68 mph is pretty good - even with the double stepped pad...

    I have a '90 374v with a worked Tempest 25p (a45 model) and I can get 65 mph solo and about 60 - 61 with a partner and tournament load.

That is where your double stepped pad benefits you and makes you a little faster, I think.

Will be interesting to hear (read) other's input.

    Wishin' I was fishin'...

If it turns that 25" Trophy prop to 5600 get a 25 Tempest and you'll pick up some speed with the bow lift the tempest will give you. Rangers need bow lift to get any speed.

Have the prop you got now turned down to a 24 by a good prop guy be a lot cheaper than a new prop. Might as well have them BnB it while they are working on it. I ran a 175EFI for years you need to get those rpms up above 5850. I ran mine between 5900-6000 for 15 years without a issue EFI's need to be spun at the top of their rpm range to get everything out of it.
