    lugging motor

I see alot of guys with the new 4S trying to reach "max RPM" and having to reprop to due this.

Is 200-300RPM really lugging the motor? Is it really that important to reach max R's? Will MPH increase enough to worry about?
What happens when you fill the livewells, or take your gutterpig for a day on the lake, or fill the gas tank?

Back in the day, the old OMCs had a range of 4500-5500 or whatever it was as power making rpms.

Isn't 5900 close enough to 6200 to call it good?

In my book it is. But I’m not an expert. I run my 2 stroke 5400 max. On a good day

Well if you drop a pitch and gain 200 rpm putting you at 6100-6200 you can then have a slightly better whole shot while then being able to carry you man-bear-pig of a buddy and full fuel and livewells. And under that load you may only be at 5900 but a hell of a lot better than 5700 and a 15 second whole shot

    +1 Fishysam

This appears to be in reference to my previous post. To me, 5900 vs 6200 ain’t a big deal. Maybe a couple mph but I could care less about that. I’m sure if I wanted to prop my boat to go 85 mph that would be no problem. But based off some professional recommendations I was advised that I should prop the boat to be in the upper RPM range limit to offer the best performance and overall long term engine health. I just spent WAY TOO MUCH on my new four stroke to not be 100% optimized from a prop standpoint.

6000 is where that motor reaches max HP that's why they try to get all those rpm's. Max speed will only increase 1-2 mph per 100 rpm's but most guys like you that just spent a lot for a new motor want all they can get.
