I've been working on Hideki Maeda to try to talk him into re-releasing it as a Teckel bait. Enough guys badgered him about the Repo Man Late Payment / Vixen that it worked, so maybe we'll get the Squeaky Dolphin back too?

He's a super interesting fellow, and a tough nut to crack. Clearly a wizard when it comes to designing topwater baits, and I just don't think he's motivated by money all that much. He strikes me as a guy that's always wanting to figure out the next new thing.

Working on it but the wire is threaded and the blade is shaped different than other blades.

Theres one for sale right now on Ebay for $124 in Japan

Heres a link to a review of the bait with pictures . Looks like a couple of round brass knurled nuts to position the blade and a round brass cup washer for the blade bushing . Reaction Innovations Squeeky Dolphin Buzzbait (tackletour.com)

Wanted to dig this one back up, because Teckel has just re-released this bait as the MaxQueaker! https://www.instagram.com/p/C5bf_MBLDri/

Looks like The Hook Up is the only place that has it at the moment: https://thehookuptackle.com/products/maxqueaker

I ordered a bunch of the Teckel and they arrived today. I had the pleasure of meeting at talking with Hideki at length during the Classic. A mutual friend introduced us to one another and it was such a great experience. Hideki is such a legend in lure design that it was truly an honor. Once he realized I was a frog junkie we talked a good while. I nerded out a bit. He showed me some cool prototype stuff he has coming out and we exchanged contact info. We are gonna try to fish together soon which will be a bucket list deal. He is the designer of the Vixen, Swamp Donkey, Squeaky Dolphin, The One, and the Boze Sumo frog among many others.
    Super nice guy.

Are they made in smaller sizes? 1/2oz is heavy for a buzzbait around here.

As far as I can see, only 1/2 oz, at least as of now. If the Megabass Jamaica Boa is any indication (and I suppose the only reason it would be is that it is also a high-end buzzbait from a JDM manufacturer), 1/2 oz may be it. I guess a more direct comparison might be that the Squeaky Dolphin was only offered in 1/2 oz....

The weight does get spread out more on this one than an average 1/2 oz buzzbait due to the head shape, though I don't think I could be telling you anything about weight distribution you don't already have a handle on!

I use a 3/8 or 1/4 buzzbait a lot but really like the 1/2 for windy days. I think the head shape does distribute the weight differently.

The RI Squeaky Dolphin was never made in a smaller version.
