No brainers for long term hold

I just looked up IVV and VOO....OMG! 5 yr return 100%, 10 yr return 200% . Why would anyone want to paid off their 3-5% mortgage early?

I think it is still good to accelerate paying off debt.

Since 2009, most investments have seen that kind of growth.

This is true of the past 10 years, and over a very long time.

However, Looking at IVV, from 2000 (inception) to 2010, it lost money.

Even in the 1980’s, people were saying the same. Don’t pay off house, invest in the market. Some times it works out great, other times not so much.

Depends on your age as well. If you are nearing retirement and the market goes south you still have to make the mortgage payment regardless of what the stock market does.
