    2007 200 pro xl... pro xs 225 4stroke

Just re powered from 225 hpdi and a 6 inch manual plate to a 225 pro xs 4 stroke and a 10 in hydraulic plate. Ran 72-74 loaded with Yamaha and can’t get 72 loaded with the 4 stroke, live wells full and 2 people barely runs 70.
24 fury 73.7 with gear but low fuel and no water in wells at about 5900 or so rpms but 69 with fuel, live wells and 2 people 55-5600 rpm. 23 fury went 73 with low fuel and no water in wells and 70 loaded with water in wells and 2 people at 5800 rpm I’m not happy with the speed. Is the extra length on the jackplate hurting it or motor just that much slower. 2-3 mph is quite a bit.

    I have a 2005 200 PRO Xl & just went from a 6" manual plate to a 10" manual plate & picked up 2 mph. Also raised my motor about 1" .

is the merc 4 stroke max RPM around 6200? I've heard a lot of people say they have to prop down to make up for the extra RPMS after switching.

Yes 6200. Turns 5800 loaded heavy with 1/2 3/4 fuel and water in wells with the 23 fury. Ran 73 with that prop with no water and 1/4 tank about 6-6100. Prop sounds about right from going off of rpms but it’s still 2 mph slower than old motor.

The 73 was in a tourney with 2 people (i weigh 290) 3/4 tank fuel unfortunatly no fish in livewell. I would have thought the newer motor would have been faster. I am running a
    27 pitch tempest plus.

FWIW - I just repowered my 1999 Stratos SS with a 225 Yamaha SHO. With a 23P T2 Prop 6" JP I'm at 68 MPH at 5800 RPMS. On a good day with my 225 Evinrude Ficht I could get 72-73 MPH

That’s aggravating, hopefully you will be able to get it back after some jackplate raising and maybe different props.

Make sure you have your throttle checked. A common problem on the new Merc motors is getting the throttle to open to 100%. You’ll need to bring to the shop and id advise you physically watch them with the digital G3 system show you when the hot foot is all the way it gets 100%. These new motors don’t like the standard hot foots and most need to be meticulously adjusted and hot foots need to the modded to work right. That could very easily be the problem with it not getting to 61-6200 rpms at wot. Also, the hpdi lower unit will still be 1-2 mph faster on the stratos hull. Once you get the throttle checked I think you can get it close to what you were seeing before but will take trying a few different props. Good luck!
