    88 Pantera 2

So I joined the Basscat family last night. I bought an 88 Pantera 2 with a Mariner 200. Unfortunately I got caught in a wicked storm on the way home and it tore up my seats pretty bad. I was wondering on the slim chance someone may have a 5 piece bench set for sale is decent condition. I looked at a new one from BCB and its $899 and it says turnaround time is seasonal plus another 2-4 weeks for delivery.

I did see the post where the guy converted from a 5 piece to buckets but even then they are $999 at BCB.

Thanks and look forward to an awesome journey in my new to me boat.

    OK other questions.

    1. Has anyone here used aftermarket rivets for their bench seat hinge? If so what size did you use? I have a few hundred of the 3/16"X1/2" grip, aluminum rivets.
    2. Would a SeaStar steering cable SSC 12412 work? I am missing one steering cable (it was just cut under the dash - not my doing) and took a brand new one off my 89 201 ChampioN?
    3. Any wiring diagrams available? Or anyone that rewired/repaired their wiring under the dash have any insight?
    4. Anyone installed a hot foot in their old Pantera 2? Advice? Suggestions? Pics?
    5. Keelguard length? BCB sells 6 foot ones but when I went and looked up the Megaware website is says 7ft for up to 20 foot boats and 6 foot for up to 18 feet. I've seen/heard of several Champions and others putting 8 foot ones on from 19-21 foot.
    6. Latches: Currently have the, I assume original, Sarasota latches and locks. What can I replace/upgrade them with? I looked at the SoutchCo but there is no mention of the hole size like there is on the Perko ones.
    7. Fuel Tank sending units? (both are disconnected so gauge doesn't work (not sure if it actually does work as a result).
    8. Fuel Tank square flange gaskets?
    9. Fuel Tank has 2 hoses coming off of it on the starboard side, but only has one on the port side. There is another hose present on the port side tank, but it appears to have been disconnected and capped off at the tank. I assume it is for the port breather but it is currently just a flat bolt and not the 90 degree fitting like on the starboard side.
    10. Switches? Any aftermarket horizontal oriented ones available or what can I use to replace. My Horn, Recirculator, and Fuel level rocker switches are not functional.

It has a few small/minor issues but nothing ridiculous or needing major work.

Ray, I would go over to BassCat.com and sign up on the Owners Forum and ask there too, there's a lot of owners there with a long history with BassCat. You also ought to call BassCat and talk to parts, they can most likely help you some or at least give you some ideas.

Second the suggestion above. Parts will have the answers to many of your questions.

I called earlier today and was told he couldn't tell me what rivets I'd need. Also asked about the keel guard and was told we only sell a 6 foot even in the Hambys

Did you speak with Alan? The only reason I ask is because I too called about rivets, albeit rub rail rivets, and he told me the exact size and sent them out promptly.

It’s hard on a 1988 model to explain all the variables. There is no log on those parts going back 34 years.

I understand. She's built well and just would like to keep her that way since y'all built it so badass any work I do I want to reflect the passion and engineering that make it so awesome.

I am shocked how solid it is for its age really. I'm loving it so far. I got a thread in the restoration forum for some of the relatively small/minor things I am doing to it if you want to check it out.

I've added some new pics of repairs/updates to my build thread in the Restoration forum.

Work so far: TH Marine drain plug, bench seat cushions, bow panels, TH Marine rod tamers

To come: 2.25 RAM Mount on bow, new 2d shoot-thru transducer, Rod Buckles, Retractable straps, New winch, New jack, Replacing Steering Cable (ultimately will go with Hydraulic steering), jack plate, Hotfoot, carpet, better recessed trolling motor tray, compartment lighting, deck lighting, new trailer rollers, trailer going to be X-lined, and more

Does anyone have any pics and or suggestions for mounting an external temp sensor (Lowrance from the PDRT-WBL)? I have it run through the rigging hole, but that is as far as I have gotten.

My boat doesn't have any non-factory holes in the transom except the 2 screws from the TH marine drain plug I installed.

Rivets are $6 for 100 at Lowes. I bought 1/8 and 3/16 short and longs and use whatever works best.

Yeah I discovered that most are 3/16" diameter and long. I also found that I could get them at Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply and Fastenal (but you got to order by the several thousands)

What pitch props are good for these old hulls? I found a 3 blade 23-m, a 4 blade unknown maker stainless 22 pitch and it has a 4 blade stainless on it now unknown pitch but has vent holes (right at the base of the blades). I will post whatever information present for its current prop once I get it off. It is on an 86 blackmax 200 carb

I am having issues with it being able to power on the trailer, bogging on take off and only getting 49.7 MPH on a Lowrance Hook 9 gps.

    Radeleur,

Some of your inquiries might be found searching in the FAQ section. Also most of those parts like rivets and etc. are able to be found in our parts department and they will be glad to minimize your search efforts. The staff may have to ask someone familiar with a 1988 model, though we certainly can and will help.

That propeller in todays world is the 22 Fury. That engine will bog if it is trimmed down as the exhaust needs to be clear.

Thanks BCB. I got the rivets sorted out. I have since ordered parts from BCB and they arrived and have been installed. I only posted on this again since I am still working on this boat. The 1988 Mariner in my sig is blown and I am trying to use the 1986 Black max also in my sig now until I either can afford to repower or source the parts to rebuild the 88 Mariner.

Here are the pics of the props I have.

    1. The one that was on it is a: Turbo M13 3/4 x 24 with vent holes added at bases of blades (Best that I can tell I haven't been able to find anything in searches)
    2. One 4 blade stainless has no markings but an engraved 22P
    3. The black on is: 13 3/8 x 23-m (From what I can find might be a painted black stainless Yamaha prop but not 100% certain)
