    HVAC experts step inside

Do we have any HVAC people on here?

My thermostat clicks but the AC does not turn on.

It’s not power or the float switch.

package unit ( all located outside) split system (AC condenser outside & Furnace inside)
Do you have the fan blowing any air in the house but not cold? If no, then check the 3amp fuse located on the control board inside furnace cabinet and check if the furnace/brains of the system are getting power.

Does the fan blow air just not cold and the condenser unit outside does not kick on, If yes, It may be the contactor located in the condensing unit outside. Your thermostat sends 24v to it and that in turn allows the 240v to travel through the contactor to turn the unit on.
A tell tale will be humming at the condenser that tells you the thermostat is sending the 24v to the contactor but it not making proper contact

    It’s a split unit.

doesn’t seem like there is power to the thermostat.

it went blank. I added batteries and it came back on but doesn’t work. Batteries were never there before. I removed them and there is no power. Verified with a meter.

the breaker is engaged, but no power to thermostat. With the batteries installed I can hear the thermostat click to engage.

I’ll start looking for fuses in the furnace area.

no the fan does not blow.

Batteries only light the display. You have a control voltage loss.

Could be lots of things. Board, transformer, float switch, loss of line voltage (breaker)

Start at the breaker, then head to the air handler to start checking things out.

If it’s the breaker, you have a compressor or fan issue.

You need to start with control voltage - check transformer first. Then check wire for bad connections/breaks.

Call a hvac repair guy. That’s the best I can do unless you can inspect the wires from the thermostat to the unit in hopes that you can find where a critter has chewed wires into. After that I just let my local guy have at it.

That has no control power could be many things. Control fuse, no control power (transformer, no high volt power. Any of these is caused by a shorted coil, open circuit, shorted winding. Any other number of issues.

Start at the furnace for power. There should be an ssu power
switch on furnace. Check fuse in switch. Check breaker to
furnace if no power there. If power is on look to see if there
is a light blinking that will tell you the problem. If light is
blinking pull off blower door and there is a code to tell you
    the issue. Good luck.
