Can someone who knows educate me

I have a stock 25 tempest plus on my 250hp nitro z8, it hardly gets to 6000 rpm in the fall and spring more like 5850 or so at wide open all season.

Im looking at a 23 trophy plus 4 blade to use when seas are over 2'. I know the pitch would be better for responsiveness, but is there an education I can get that this may be a bad plan or ok plan or??

I know a bravo is the cats meow on my boat but the trophy is 140$ with a new hub so price wise can't go wrong can I? Thanks

The only concern I would have is the Trophy prop for $140???? I'm assuming that is a used one. That price to me usually means that it needs repair and balancing etc. I have no problem purchasing a used prop but do your due diligence on this one.
There is always the chance of getting a steal on one so maybe this is it. Good luck with it but you might have to spend some more money on it and be without your prop for a while. I could be wrong too.

    I'd put the $140 towards a Bravo1 or Razor4 XL.

Ok I hear you but not trying to get maximum speed out of my boat in this condition "2' waves", would it be worth the 300$ more rate for one of your suggestions? Can you elaborate on the prop characteristics?

Just bite the bullet and get a bravo that prop will never do what you want.

If all your wanting is a 4 blade 2 pitch smaller rough water and a backup prop I'd say go for it. For that kind of money you could always sale it if it doesn't do what you want.

I agree with fishingfireman. If it looks mint then you can't go wrong so just get it. The Trophy Plus is an excellent prop. i run one myself and it does a great job. If you like it "as is", then you are good to go or you can spend a little more and have it trued up and balanced. That is a good price for sure.

Exactly.... The trophy is too small in diameter with narrow blades in comparison. I wouldnt waste my money or time on a trophy for the application you requested.

BTW... Not all 4 blades are created equal... Just because the trophy is a 4 blade does not mean it will do what you think... This is true comparing any prop to another. Diameter, Rake, Cup, Pitch progression, barrel diameter, barrel length, flared or not, etc...

For $140 i would get it. A trophy set up right does everything well but nothing great. It is a good all around prop, and usually a tad faster than a Bravo.

Ithe prop is new and comes with a new hub as well looks to be the correct hub, what is a flow torque 2 hub worth? And thanks for the feedback so far still on the fence.

i understand that props have different characteristics like bow lift or stern lift and this can be from cup, or barrel style. What does a trophy plus do compared to my tempest plus? If my tempest will plane at 20mph would this one? And when I mean 2' plus seas I mean like 4' from trough to crest so any speed run is 100% out

Usually the trophy will plane out quicker and at a slower speed. Less steering torque, better handling in rough water. It has less bow lift than a tempest, but top speed is normally within 1 mph, either being faster depending on setup.
It will holeshot significantly better with a heavy load.

I fish the Great Lakes... I fish rough water a lot... I would never consider the trophy as a good 4 blade for you compared to the Bravo1 style propellers. Slightly better than a tempest though.

I am by no means an expert (and even that is an overstatement ) but from what I’ve read here and other engine forums 5850 to 6000 rpms is right in the normal operating range for a 2 stroke ?

I have three props for my 250 Y Sho on my Basscat puma FXP 26 tempest 27 and a 27 trophy . The trophy out runs the other two by 3 mph on top end loaded 78-79 . Empty by myself 82 any day the other two wil run78-79 empty loaded 76-77 . All three have great hole shot the tempest and Fxp will not mid range lift in till I get over 50 mph . Just ran the boat with a full tournament load yesterday by myself at right at 80 .with the trophy. I don’t see the all the hype about the bravos when you give up so much on top end I have ran them on my rig and could not out perform the trophy . But I have been dialing in my boats to run for 36 years . The 23 trophy is to small dia imo to get the best performance on top end and lift . But it will make a good back up prop for 140$
