Shorter casting rod (6'6" to 6'10") for whopper plopper.

Looking for some input from those that use or have used shorter rods for plopper fishing. To make shorter, more accurate casts.

No budget limitations......I'm looking at the Megabass P5 F6-66X Killer Code. Personally, I'm going with dobyns xp 706cb and a tequila baccarac this year, but haven't gotten the chance to catch with them yet.

The pop r gurus always used 6 ft rods for in close casting. I picked up 3 old 6 ft all stars this winter, looking forward to using them This year.

Thanks for the reply's. Since we are still driving 1/2-ton P.U.s on the ice and auguring threw 2.0 feet of ice to fish. I have a little time to do more looking and reading before ice out.

I use a 6’9” rod for the smaller ploppers, 65,70,90. 110 and up I’ll switch. I use mh pg carrot stick with braid. There are lots of cheaper rods with that same type of graphite parabolic action that works for me. I’ve always thought a mh falcon bucco rod would work well.

Shortest I’ve used is a 7’0” ALX Buzz. Not only for buzzbaits but 75/90 Ploppers up to 3/4 oz 105 Choppo. I find it accurate, and with a Tatula Elite I can still bomb it a loooooong ways when I need to. Maybe Alex could make a shorter WP for you.

I use a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10" MHMF casting rod. It works very well for me. My accuracy problems aren't due to the rod, I just need a lot more practice.

I use an OLD, re-worked, 6'6" Berkley Series 1, medium action for smaller Ploppers and Choppos. Very accurate although a little heavier than todays offerings.
