Pulling Caracal with a Chevy Colorado with the big V6?

Been thinking about downsizing from a Silverado to a Colorado or Canyon. Just don't know how it would do towing my Caracal.

plenty of power to go but you may experience some "tail wagging the dog" especially in hills and when braking.

Not a chance in hell I would pull a Caracal or boat of similar size with a Colorado. I wouldn't go bigger than a Sabre with a Colorado. The Caracal is a lot of boat behind a little truck.

I used a V6 SUV and pull my Caracal long distances. NO issues. I now have an F150 with the 2.7 V6 and it's great. It tows great and I get good mileage when I make by 70+ per day drive to work. I would like to go back to a smaller truck. The big one does not fit in my garage.

I pulled a Cougar with a Tacoma all over the place. My Tundra is certainly better in all aspects though. The Colorado can tow up to 7000 pounds with optional equipment. I believe the standard is 3500 pounds. Get the truck set up properly to tow 7000 pounds and you will be just fine.

I think we can all agree the colorado will pull the boat. But that truck will absolutely hate it and it won't be good for it. As far as the tacoma pulling a cougar....My buddy had a tacoma and he pulled his mid 90's Eyra (smaller sub 18' boat with a 150) and it did it but it hated it as well. Screamed going up hills. Wife has a 2020 4Runner with the V6, it's rated to tow up to 5K pounds I think. My 518 don't weigh near that and I'd never use it as a tow vehicle. Thing can barely get out of it's own way as it is....

I had a v6 2017 Colorado. I pulled by 18.6ft Skeeter and my PII with it. It had plenty of power however the torque converters on those are a POS. I went through two in 30,000 miles.

No problem towing my Eyra with a ZR2. I did a 1500 mile trip with it from ND to VA.

It's like buying a Cougar FTD with a 200. Sure, it will get the job done but it's not going to perform like a 250.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm thinking I'll stay with a full size truck.

Its funny, these little trucks nowadays have as much or more hp and torque than V8 1/2 tons had in the 90s and early 00s. Its also funny, I drive a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and the wife has a Ram 2500 diesel, and we pull the boat as much with my half breed as we do with her truck.

I bet he overall mileage difference between the Colorado and full size is not that much. I would stick with the full size as well.

Trucks keep getting bigger and bigger. Have you seen a new Colorado setting next to a first gen Silverado (thru 2007) they are pretty much the same size.

I feel the mid-size truck will be plenty as far as pulling it. It will probably have to push the RPM's at times to get the job done.
Where they fall short is stopping. I mean "Oh Crap" I need to stop now!! Thats where the full size truck shines compared to the smaller truck.
To me its worth keeping the full size truck for that reason alone.

Yep. Only advantage is if you have a small garage. I know 2 people with Tacomas for this reason.

I picked up a F 250 Tremor 6.7 diesel......game over!!!!! 22 MPG not towing and 15 mpg towing. Can not feel the boat behind me. I have towed with small trucks for years and then went to the half tons. Still did not know what I was missing. The larger trucks are no BS.....check em out
