"Freight & Prep" and "Final Prep Fee" on Ranger Boat

I'm in the process of shopping for a new Ranger boat.

What do you guys think of these fees attached to this bill out on this boat. Is this normal ?
I live in Texas. Attached is the worksheet.

Appreciate any and all comments. Thanks !

I don’t have experience buying a new boat but would question the dealer why there are 2 Prep fees.

Well, first off, I'd want to know EXACTLY how much is freight from Flippin to San Antonio, then EXACTLY what they do for the rest of the "Prep" !! THEN, just what and why is there a FINAL PREP (probably a Detailer to do the final clean up and polish) !!! I'm sure that those Prep Fees are Dealer fees, so, I'D GET A PRICE from a few other dealers too, as these may vary dealer to dealer !! I'd drive a few hrs to save a few hundred bucks.

If that is MAP pricing I would try and get all the addons free. That’s what I
was able to do on mine. I had about 3-4,000 on my z520c that they took
    care of. Good luck

Thanks for the responses. Yes, these are the catalog/website MAP prices.

Are you guys getting discounts from the MAP ?

How are you getting a 2022? My 2021 is still getting built.

Prep fees are dealer profit items and are negotiable. When you see things like that on your bill, you know the dealer is not your friend.

My dealer didn't have a prep fee on the VX1788WT I ordered/bought last year. Freight was a few hundred dollars, but the dealer is only maybe 200 miles from the factory. Dealers do spend some time on prep (if they're good), cleaning it, making sure everything works and was delivered as ordered, etc. These aren't built in Flippin Arkansas, they're built in Lebanon Missouri.

I'd also get quotes from a few dealers, I found about a $2,000 difference between 2 dealers.

I got a little off of MAP pricing but they will deal on the dealer addons and prep. Good luck.

Oh, also, I forgot to add, I upgraded to the 175 Pro XS, and I've got to say, that makes this boat a rocket with a Tempest Plus 17 pitch.. Top speed is 50mph and it leaps out of the hole like a wild banshee. I did add a 6" slidemaster manual jackplate though because I couldn't get the motor low enough... prior to the JP she was pretty unstable at WOT and cavitated like crazy in turns, even mounted at the lowest setting on the transom.

The freight and prep is likely from mother Ranger and probably not a lot of wiggle room there. You aren't going to find out the actual expenses as they vary from run to run with fuel costs, number of boats on the load, etc. Likely you could transport it yourself from the factory to dealer for less, but they ship the boat as it is still their boat until you buy it from the dealer.

The other one is the dealer's cost of taking the boat off the trailer, prepping it, warranty certification on the motor, etc. and doesn't seem all that crazy to me. They are paying someone to do all that as well as do your paperwork, store the boat, etc. Any of these numbers are likely negotiable but you will likely pay somewhere else and even if you save a few dollars, is it worth it? Buying local and the dealer knowing me has always paid for itself when I need service.

    +1

If we're talking in the hundreds of dollars, I'm staying local. Get into the thousands, then I'm going elsewhere.

it's ALL negotiable.... but remember the dealer has a fair bit of work to do when it arrives. unwrap, mount your optional items, install batteries and a few other things I havent thought of in a long time..

You can save a lot of money if you're willing to buy a year or two old boat !!! I'm on my 5th Ranger and have NEVER bought one new. OR had a boat payment either !!! I've bought them from 2-12yrs old and been happy with every one of them.
