    Boat weight

Maybe some one here can give me a accurate weight of a 2004 206 with a 225 Mercury. I relize fuel, equipment and the number people will make a difference. I'm just looking for a dry weight. I found some info on another site that stated 1700 lbs does this seem accurate ?

I think that sounds about right. My 2007 210 is around 1900 lbs.

Pretty sure that is the empty hull weight.

    Thanks Guys,
Now lets add a thousand pounds to that same boat with fuel, gear and 2 people that puts us around 2700 pounds. Do you think an 80lb trolling motor would do the job ? I know a 101 or a 112 would be better and a bigger cost, what I really want to know is 80lbs going to get the job done in 15-20 mph winds on an inland lake. or..... on a river with a slight to medium current. your professional and real would experience is greatly appreciated.

Are you a 4 hr or 10 hr fisherman? I'm sure an 80 will get the job done if you aren't super hard on the trolling motor. I have never had any regrets on having more lbs of thrust. Only regret is buying the 3rd battery I guess...

70 percent of the time i'm a 6 hour guy the other 30 percent are longer day's. I completely understand the 3rd battery thing this trolling motor purchase is very similar do i spend more than i should or wish i would have. I hate these kind of decisions. Hey Minn Kota why not a 50 , 70 , 90 and 112 option just putting it out there.

Brochures show estimated weight of empty hull alone. You will have to determine motor weight, etc.

What did people use on 20' boats prior to the availability of 36v? 70 or 75lb thrust 24v. Now you have 80 pounds available with better batteries.

Also alot of people on the coast only use 24 volt trolling motors on 20-22' bay boats that are heavier than your boat and catch alot more wind. The reason they use 24v is due to limited area to fit 3rd battery.

Granted my boat is 1' shorter, I run a Nitro Z19 ( near same weight) with 80 pound min kota and can fish 2 full days without charging. Mainly fish Sam Rayburn where the wind always blows.

Thanks for the information this what i need to make the right choice. I never thought about what people did before 36 volt motors.

A buddy runs an 80# on a 1996 Stratos 201 and fishes all day and tournament fishes a lot. A good 24v motor will work just fine.

Now, if you had a 36v but were going backwards, I think you would dislike the 24v.

......For me in the wind, I think of shaft length first. Gets crazy here, but you do gain RPM's when its in the air...Ha

I currently have a 36 volt ( new with the boat 2004 ) and I'm not disappointed in its performance but its getting to the point of re building it or replacing it. I'm confident that with todays battery options fishing for a longer period of time with either a 24 or 36 volt is really a mute issue. the concern is how much are you really sacrificing in performance, is it even measurable. Sure getting out for the first time or two you probably feel the difference but over the coarse of a season will you remember the difference and regret it when going from a 36 to 24 volt. 3000.00 is a lot of money and 2400.00 is not chump change, so is 600.00 worth 12 volts just trying to stretch the dollar. I wonder if anyone has regretted that decision ?

All depends on what trolling motor you go with I guess, the ghost and the force are brushless, and even on 24v they're getting almost 100lbs. of thrust, just a thought too

I get it, how true you gain 4 feet just to loose 2 when the prop exposes its self. Are you running a 24 volt system ? are you happy with it ?

Thanks for the input. I already have invested to much in Humminbird and really just want to take advantage of the options you get with Minn Kota. so I'm sorta stuck in this marriage.

Yes 24 is good. Ride it all day. At times you just take different angles and use the wind, but that's not to often.
