    Megabass S-Crank 1.2 and 1.5

I've started finding success in the fall on this particular bait, but having trouble finding a rod that will through them adequately. My current set-up in an Orochi XX Flat-Side Special w/ Zillion SV 7:1 and 12 lb sniper.

I use the Megabass Orochi or Levante Diablo Spec R usually but the Flatside Special is a good choice too. Some prefer the Jerkbait Special.

I should of asked, why the DSR vs the Flat Side or even the Swingfire?

DSR is a little stouter rod with a more traditional bend and faster action. The Swingfire and FSS are more parabolic. I actually prefer the FSS unless im fishing them around heavier cover. The DSR and FSS are both graphite blanks and the Swingfire is a glass composite.

What do you mean by "adequately"? I throw them and other squarebills on the FSS.

Guess I’m used to seeing good distance with my crankbaits, squarebills especially and I have a hard time getting the distance from these bait vs other squarebills I throw. Ie Megabass goes 25-30 yards vs strike king/evergreen 30-35? Maybe those numbers are a bit of a stretch, but I’m a big dude. I can chuck baits pretty good.

I probably should have mentioned I'm using a Gen 1 XX FSS. I can't say I've really noticed a difference between how far I can cast an S-Crank vs an SK.

P.S. - The FSS is a pretty good spybait rod too.....

I toss my S Crank 1.2's on the Javelin and it does pretty well.

I don't know about that - if you have a Gen 2 FSS then it might not fling them out there the same as a Gen 1.

I think the only solution is to get a P5 Z-Crank.....

With a SK squarebill I usually get 45-50 turns of the reel (6.8) on a normal cast but with the MB cranks I get 5-7 less. They’re great, just don’t cast as far in my experience.

Lol the P5s are sure nice, but I just cannot justify for a technique that I fish in the spring and fall. Yeah, my FSS is a Gen 2. I like it, but I’ll do some more testing before I decide.

That’s what I get with my Powell. 100$ and it’s a great shallow crank stick. Squarebills to medium divers.

Well I am really not impressed with the flat side special for a squarebill rod... Gonna give it one more shot with a S-Crank and a SK. If it fails, I am going back to my Powell Inferno.

I like a little bit more backbone with squarebills as I throw them around heavier cover. I want the ability to turn them and get them out of the cover quickly. The Swingfire is better suited for more open water presentations.
