    ‘98 Johnson Venom 225 (J225STLECS)

I am having overheating alarms and the motor won’t stay running once I engage forward or reverse... but it starts every time and always has a strong water stream. What could be the problem? How can I troubleshoot it myself and fix it myself. Also, does anyone know an OMC mechanic (that will work on the older motor sector) in NC, SC, or northern GA? I have only had the boat for a couple of weeks... contemplating Repowering with a newer used motor. Any advise?

Is the engine running hot? If so it could be stuck thermostats. If not could be a flaky temp sensor.

I would pull thermostats and check them or replace.
