    Thread color and white blanks

I'm on my fifth build, a spinning rod for my wife. It has a lavender metallic transition to white pearl color blank from rod geeks (70/30). I'm trying to decide on thread colors to use on both sections of the blank.

My question is does colored blanks impact the resulting thread color after coating? I've tested some colors I was considering, but on an unpainted blank. I tried some white thread, but was surprised at what happens when you apply thread coat.

I don't plan on using thread color preserver, but can.

You can add a little white pigment to the epoxy. I use tresters paint. I have done this on a lot of Ducket rod repairs

Yes. The underlying blank color will impact the color of nylon thread after finish without CP. Nylon goes translucent, so you will see what is underneath.

Nothing shows you how good (or bad) your wraps are like a dark color thread on a white blank or a light color thread on a dark blank!

If you file the guide feet and they are bright metal and you use a light color thread without color preserver you will be able to easily see the shiny metal through the translucent thread.

I put new guides on a Duckett White Ice for a guy once. I used metallic blue thread and put a little white pearl powder in the flex coat. It made the guide wraps look frozen.

I like the translucent look of nylon thread without color preserver.

Metallic gold with black trim is a classic white blank combo.
