    prop question

I have a 1997 201 stratos with a 200 Johnson venom, running a 24 Raker , its pushing around 5600 RPM's at wot. I would like to get the RPM's up to around 5900 at wot and get a little better hole shot and be able to run at lower speeds staying on plain. any help would be appreciated . I'm thinking a 23 4 blade. if I do go with a 4 blade which is best?

I would try going up on your jack plate. Keep an eye on water pressure. Know it’s not the same but I’m running a 200 Yamaha on my ranger at 3 “ ptp. When you get close a 1/4” makes a big difference.

I'm running a 14 1/2 x 24 3 blade raker, do you think raising the motors going to fix my issues? my boats under powered, Its a 1997 stratos 201 ( 20+') with a 200hp Johnson venom. I've got no problem with the top end though, I dont run as fast as the boat will go. I'm more into the take off , handling and staying on plane at lower cruising speeds. most people I talk to including a guy that has worked on boats for 30+ years that drove my boat tells me I need to try a 4 blade and drop down 2 degree's in pitch. right now my boats running around 5500 RPM's at WOT so I have a little play. Its confusing to me because he said to get a 14 1/2 x 21 4 blade renegade and the only thing I can find so a 13 1/2 inch so IDK how the pitch change and the diameter change is going to affect the RPM's. I'm trying to get a few educated opinions before I buy a prop because there's no one around my area to borrow a prop from to try.

You asked for more rpms. Ok raising your motor will. You want a better hole shot. Do you have vent holes in your prop venting your prop will increase rpms on take off. Ok now you like holeshot cruising at low speeds and handling better. 4 blade is what you need. Which one can’t tell you , not a Johnson guy but I can tell you on my rig I have a 24 trophy 4blade and a 24 vmax 3 blade that I turn 5500 on either. I like the 4 blade better. Try posting on stratos page

You want a 23" renegade 4 blade quit worrying about the diameter renegades are 13 1/2" and your motor won't run as high prop to pad as a Mercury will so 3.5" would be as high as you can run it.

I can only tell u what I see not read. What I can say is some high performance 4 blades run a lot better than old 4 blade props. Truth be told they all run different. Best case for you is to find someone with your boat that has done all the homework already. Otherwise it takes a lot of time and cash to really dial her in. I find merc props run the best. That’s why I run one on a Yamaha.

I'd have the motor checked too because that's the way that boat used to come from the dealer with a 24 Raker and it would turn close to 6000 rpm's so your down a few.

The motor runs great. compressions good, within 1 pound on all 6.

I would call Mark at Marks Props and talk to him(317-398-8294). Have you had your 24 Raker reworked? if not I would start there.

No but I can look at the Raker and tell it needs work. I just got this boat a couple months ago and took it to the shop immediately after buying to have the motor gone through, I only ran the boat a few times and it ran high 50's low 60's which should be pretty close to what it should do. I wanted to run it a few more times before calling Mark to have more info to give him so the likelihood of it not being what I want would decrease. So here lately I'm just waiting for the weather to Break.

Mark refurbished my Tempest Plus a few months back. I picked up a couple hundred rpms and 2-3 mph just by his work.
