    G2 oil replacement

I know there has been some threads on this but is there an acceptable replacement for xd 100? I have been running the xd 100 that say xps on the bottle and it is leaving greasy deposits in the exhaust port and the vent holes on the prop. It seems they have changed the oil some it’s a little different color and the consistency seems thicker.

XPS is the latest packaging and the XD100 is the same oil. Just new bottle.
There is no specific substitute brand for XD100 endorsed by Evinrude. Amsoil does make their own claim of their oil being acceptable substitute.
do a search on this site for xd100 amsoil for more depth. Also search for Sierra

I would think Mercury brand should work.

Evinrude recommends XD100 as the primary recommendation Alternative is Evinrude XPS labeled as XD50 or an oil with the TC-W3 certification. So yes the Mercury standard oils will work because they are certified but the OPTIMAX oil is not Tc-w3 certified. Not to say OPTIMAX oil is will not work. It is a good oil but it is not endorsed by Evinrude for this purpose.

If under warranty I would stick to the 100....If not I know engines that have run long hours on the Amsoil.....You must get the right oil as they make different applications....

The xd100 and XPS is a dark honey color, not yellow like, it’s a dark burnt looking honey color.

I fully understand that Evinrude is not going to recommend any other brand except their own oil for their motors, only makes since. The OP asked for a replacement and I only gave a suggestion.

And a good suggestion it was. My point was to pay attention to the TC-w3 certification when using any alternative oil.

On the container is there a picture of a G2 and does it say EVINRUDE?

There is also an E-TEC oil from BRP that is for snowmobiles. Do not get them mixed up.

Yamaha had the same problems years back with their 2W and 2M 2-stroke oils. 2M was for outboards only. 2W was for watercraft
