Couple of Lake Jordan / Raleigh Area Questions

I’ve wanted to fish those Raleigh area lakes for a long time and I think I’m finally going down to Lake Jordan for a few days this spring. Probably camping out at Poplar Point. I think I will be fishing Jordan most of the time but may spend a day at Falls and maybe a day at Harris too.

I am fishing out of a small boat and will probably trailer my boat to different ramps. Are those ramps generally safe? Any break ins to worry about if I’m out late at night around any of those ramps?

What are some of the cool or better supplied tackle shops in Raleigh or not too far away from Jordan?

Any good food places near Poplar Point campground that I should keep in mind for quick breakfast sandwiches and coffee or dinner?

    Thanks!!!!

I can answer a few of your questions:

Ramp Safety - You always hear stories, but I've never personally experienced any issues at the Jordan or Shearon Harris ramps. Rarely fish Falls.

Tackle Shops - I'd love it if someone replied with a better answer to this one. To my knowledge, the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) is a tackle shop desert other than the big box stores. That said, there are a few gas stations not too far from Poplar Point that have decent tackle selections. IMHO, the best is the Valero station (https://goo.gl/maps/3povDZ5xBmAjXKXC6) that is less than 10m from Poplar Point.

Food Spots - Again, I'd be delighted if someone has a better answers, but the gas stations (Cruizers?) in that area are probably your best bet. Chapel Hill is about 20m away.

Yup. Probably the most impressive selection of baits I've ever seen - esp. the rarer colors/baits that you'll never find at BPS/Cabela's/etc. But nearly an hour from Jordan and almost as far from Shearon Harris. I've always wondered about that shop location. There's very little public water bass fishing to be done within an hour of that shop. If you could pick-up that shop and drop it somewhere in the vicinity of RDU it would be a goldmine! The combination of increased foot traffic and mail/internet order (the bulk of their business today from my understanding) would make for a lively business.

Awesome, appreciate all of the comments.

Aberdeen bait and tackle sounds pretty good. Maybe I’ll go down if I’m feeling like I could use a bit of a break from fishing. Always enjoy seeing the countryside and driving through new places!

Definitely check it out if you have time. Also, you'll drive right by Pinehurst and Southern Pines on your way. Pinehurst you've probably heard of/know about. But don't overlook Southern Pines. Fantastic little town. If guitars happen to be your thing, there's a terrific guitar shop called Casino Guitars you should definitely check-out.

If you decide to fish Falls, Outhouse Tackle is a very friendly and well stocked place I would definitely recommend. It is a few minutes from the Barton's Creek ramp, which I think is the best ramp on the lake and very safe area.
