    Brakes and Gatorhyde

I have a Triton TX 18 aluminum that has a hull weight of 1180 pds. I'm not sure if that includes the outboard or not (thinking not) and I know I have to factor fuel, gear, etc. I would like to upgrade the single axle trailer it is on to a tandem (approx 900 pds). Two options are to have brakes added to one of the axles and also a gatorhyde coating. I am getting c channel instead of tube. I haul with a Tacoma and don't feel like I have any issues with the weight right now.

Do you guys think the breaks are needed and does anyone have an opinion on the gatorhyde coating? I see it on the Ranger trailers and it looks nice and I'm sure would avoid the paint chips from gravel, etc.

    I really appreciate it!

I have a Ranger Trail with the Road Armor on it, egh, I'm not impressed !! It's tough to keep it looking good even tho I "Wipe" it down after each trip. It keeps looking duller and is getting a "White" powder like coating !!! My last Ranger Trail I had I had it Powder Coated. MUCH MUCH better way to go in my opinion !! When I need to re-do this trailer, I'll have the Road Armor blasted off and come back with Powder Coating !!

IMO Id rather have a dull road armor or gatorhyde than a rock pitted rust color. Road rash in my country is way worse than some areas due to the way TXDOT resurfaces..
Brakes also IMO are worth it .. better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I totally agree with the "Brakes" !! FYI, the Powder Coating is 99% rock proof !!

My custom deer catcher/grill guard wasn't... Had it powder coated red to match truck---4 years of West Texas sun and it was pink with plenty of chips.

Sounds like it wasn't prepped correctly ! I never had any issues with mine and I also had the Running Boards on my Model T done, never had a scratch or a chip in 15 yrs !!
