What is everybody attaching the mega 360 ground wire to if anything. Is it necessary?
Depends on which one--360 or MEGA 360.
It's stated in the installation instructions for each.
Page 35 for the 360.
Page 27 for the MEGA 360.

What .. the drain/shield wire to the boat’s chassis ground terminal. ..looking for boat chassis terminal ....?
Is it just the neg on the battery..

Yes. Negative on the same battery as the 360 is connected.
You can connect both the Mega 360 Negative wire and shield drain wire together and connect to the same ground... Humminbird put out a technical update on this.
