Just kidding. If you want a pickup and are only going to keep it under warranty a turbo is fine if its a forever purchase V-8 4X4.
On the other hand I tow my 206 with a 4Runner 4X4 V-6 no turbo and when taken care of normally its at least a 300,000 mile plus veh.

Currently in 2021 Ford F-150 here, with the 2.7 eco.
My previous was a 2016 f150, with 2.7 was flawless during my ownership.
never an issue towing any of my boats(FX20) or other toys

Get a 5.0 if you are getting Ford and keeping it longer than 5 years. Pick any motor if you won't keep it 5 years.

Don't know that there is any bad. My 2015 2.7 Eco tows circles around my previous 2 trucks, Ram Hemi and Tundra, and gets way better gas mileage doing it.

Pulling my zx250 with a 3.5 eco boost 2wd. Pulls like a champ. Only gets 10 mpg or so pulling. This is a 2015 with a 6 speed. I would imagine the newer 10 speeds would do a little better.

I have a 03 f250 with the 7.3. I have towed with the 3.5 and it’s hard to beat the 3/4 ton. Towed with the 5.0 also and fuel was a bit better. I will be trading in the 7.3 for a new f250 with 6.2.

I have friends with the eco engines in F150's and they have had some problems towing bigger (20' and 21') boats. They also report the fuel economy stinks. I have a 2012 F150 super crew 2WD 5.0 V8 and it does great. Not as good as the big diesels but it pulls my FX21 up steep grades like nobody's business. I get 18.2 mpg in mixed highway non highway commuting when not towing and it doesn't drop very much if I'm making a long mostly highway tow, at least over our Tennessee hills. The newer eco motors, especially the bigger V6 has awesome HP and torque numbers and Ford may have some of the other issues worked out. I can only tell you that the 5.0 Coyote V8 F150's have plenty of power for a bass boat and I understand are proven reliable high mileage motors.

3.5 eco will out tow any other 1500. The whole don't get a turbo talk seems to be just scared of something new. Turbos have been around for a long time and last. Father has 200K on his 3.5eco and ive got 94k. Can they go out... sure... will a 2500 tow better... sure... But I pull a 22ft center console that is heaver and has more wind resistance than a bass boat and it does great. 75mpg in 6th gear and rarely shifts to 5th. I have yet to see someone say they wanted to go back to the 5.0 after driving the 3.5eco. Shoot get the new F150 hybrid it will do all that while getting 24mpg with 4x4 package.

2 of my friends have newer F150’s, and they both have had transmission problems. One that was pretty scary, doing 70 mph on the highway and it dropped out of gear and went back into gear. He said it was ghost transmission problems because dealer could not find anything wrong with it. After that happened on a long trip he had another truck from a different manufacturer waiting on him when he returned home and got rid of the other one.

I have a 2018 Silverado 2500hd with 6.6 duramax, get 13-14 towing my zx200 75mph plus on the interstate. I debated on another gas burner after I bought my boat new in 2018, and decided for the price of gas vs diesel I’d rather have a diesel and don’t ever plan on going back.

Got a 2018 2.7L EB with 10-speed tranny in an F150 pulling a Phoenix that's about 4k lbs. So far so good. Pulls good. If worried with the bigger boat look at the 3.5L EB, itsarocket and the fuel economy is just about the same! I think my highway economy is 15-17mpg towing and like 21-24 without towing.

When I bought I was still skeptical about the capabilities of this tiny motor for towing. After the first trip, compared to my 5.3L GMC Yukon (which was a good puller) I was impressed.

Just purchased a 2021 F150 3.5 10 spd,355 gearing. What towing I have done so far very impressed (2017 Skeeter fx20). What I have seen so far towing between 15-17 mpg, now the 15 is doing around 68mph, 17 - 55mph any thing over 70 low 14. The truck pulls the boat great , I would even go as far as saying better then the ram I had. I came out of a 2016 eco diesel ( both trucks 4x4 crew cab) I would get about 17 mpg towing, non towing with the diesel 27mpg. With the Ford non towing I have seen 22mpg but have not been on a long trip to really measure the fuel economy. 400 hp and 500 tq this truck gets it!

Happy with the truck just have one issue the alarm if I do not turn sensors off the dam thing will go off in the middle of the night has happen several times. Have taken the truck to the dealer YEAH you guessed it “ can not find an issue”. Going back with more information ( adjust sensitivity on module). I had egr cooler valve issues with the ram so the bottom line they all have issues get what suits your needs.

My ram 1500 5.7 does that. Not sure what is impressive about that.

k3fishing: As far as impressed: non v8 yes I am. I have owned several Rams ( Hemi, Eco diesel, Cummins) was skeptical about the eco boost but pulled the trigger, down the road things go wrong I’ll get rid of it. Gave jfishin4u an honest opinion with the towing exp.

I have a 2012 (9 year old) F-150 with 200,000 miles and it has the 3.5 eco boost. The most bulletproof motor and transmission combo I have ever owned. The 3.5 eco is basically a Diesel engine (turbo chargers) that takes gasoline. It generates its torque at super low RPMs. The 2021 is 500 ft-lbs of torque, unreal. The GM 5.3 and Ram Hemi trucks need to rev really high on the tach to get their peak torque number and when they do it is far less power than the 3.5 eco. I owned a Silverado before this truck, so I am not biased. I am due for a new truck and will be test driving the Ram and Ford..Chevy is falling way behind in many ways.

I agree with most of the comments above. I have driven many different trucks over the years, most of those Ford 350 Crew cab diesels, with a GMC and Chevy thrown in there also. I currently own a 2014 F150 3.5 ECO Boost and previous to that I was driving a 2006 F150 with a 5.4 V8. HANDS DOWN the Eco Boost outperforms the V8 in every category. I was very skeptical to move down (my initial thoughts) from a V8, but it was actually a move up. Performance and fuel economy both improved. The only difference I noticed moving down to a F150 is in windy conditions. I can feel the boat because of the lighter tow vehicle. Overall I am very impressed with the tow-ability of my Skeeter 20i with the Eco Boost V6. Wish I would have moved to it years ago.

Thanks to Hydro870 pointing out that a diesel makes its power with a turbo!!
