    Loomis swim jig rod?

Looking to replace my swim jig rod with a new Loomis rod. Throw mostly 1/4 and 5/16 oz jigs with a twister or small swim jig trailer. Thinking GLX843 or maybe a 803 either GLX or NRX. Current rod is a Fenwick Aetos 6'8" mh. Like the length so looking to keep it under 7'. Current reel is a Shimano Curado 70 mgl K.

Without question... The Loomis GLX MBR series rod 100%
If you have to stay under 7ft the 783C MBR
if you can use a rod 7ft even the 843C MBR **
That 843 rod is absolutely insane !!!
Don’t even thin twice it’s a no brainer for a swim jig rod ...it has the perfect parabolic action and tip for swim jigs.

I agree with the 843. Great all purpose rod.

Of the rods you mentioned, all I can tell you is there are many rods that are much better for a swimjig than an NRX 803C.

Do tell, is the NRX just to fast?

    It’s absolutely too fast
you want the tip action of the MBR GLX rods

    For a 3/8 oz swim jig the NRX 853, 854 or 893

The NRX 803C has a very, very fast tip. I don't know if it's as fast on a GLX 803C. If I was to get a new Loomis rod for swimjigs that is 7' or less I'd go with the GLX 843. It's one of those rods that you really can't can go wrong with and you can use it for lots of other things too. I use a Megabass XX Diablo Spec-R (or two or three...) for swimjigs and it's action is comparable to the 843.

    NRX ... 853 , 854 ,893 ALL 3 .. WAY TOO FAST for swim Jigs .
    Period
That MBR series GLX is a much better rod for Swim Jigs
I got news for everyone... Just because the NRX costs more money doesn’t make it better.
In fact ... if you want to step up ... I would go for the Conquest series rods over the NRX rods.

I don't fish swimjigs that often except for one or two trips a year to guntersville but I've done well fishing a 1/4 swimjig with my nrx 853 on the edges of the grass and around docks. I paired the 853 with a scorpion 70xg and 30-40lb braid. Anything 3/8 and up I'll use my orochi pp which doubles as my frog rod. I'm sure there are better rods than the 853 for swimjigs but I haven't had any problems with it

What about the GLX 854 for 3/8 swim jigs? Any good?

It's OK for occasional use (it has a slower tip than the 853) but I wouldn't use it as a dedicated swimjig rod.

Too fast... I disagree. Especially the 853 and 893. They have a soft tip. Medium power at best. I'm a swim jig maniac and these power NRX rods have been great. That being said I also like the 843 GLX. The 7'2 Shimano Medium Poison Adrena is a good siwm jig rod also.

I fish Falcon and Loomis only - if you can find a Loomis as good as the 7’2” Falcon swim jig model - GET IT !!

I bought my last USA made Cara from the shop that built them her in town, last one they had, it was the swim jig model and I love it. Although my GLX 844 MBR is awesome as well.

My older Loomis IMX 843 seems to work pretty well. I don't fish swim jigs a ton but this rod does it just fine.

Good thing there are options. Because I have several GLX/NRX/conquest rods and the conquest are my least favorite. Your claiming a rod that cost more doesn't make it better, but your recommending a $700 rod...

Randy, kind of stole my thunder. Just because it costs more doesn’t make it better but recommend $700 rod literally one of the most if not most expensive rods made/sold.

No way I'd buy a NRX to fish a swim jig (or any other moving bait for that matter). Save your money and use the NRX for your bottom contact baits where they shine and look elsewhere for a moving bait rod.

And by the way, I'm not one of those bashing NRX or other high end rods because they are expensive. I own a number of them and they are awesome, but not for this application.

I've got NRX, GLX, IMX, and GL3's...in 843's and 853's(NRX)...I would not choose the 853 for swimjigs...at all. The actions tend to slow down as you degrade materials. I prefer to use a 843 GL3(w braid) or IMX(w fluoro) for swim jigs.
