    Trim motor

I just picked up a 1997 Yamaha 50 tlrv and the trim motor seems to have quit working. It worked great when I tested the boat and now does nothing. I have tried two different batteries, and I can hear it clicking under the cowling when I push the button but the motor doesn’t run. Is there something else that could be wrong that could make it go from working perfect one minute to not doing anything the next? Also, if it does need replacing, I see OEM part is 477$. Has anybody used a db electrical unit or heard if they are good? Looks like it would save 400$ and come with a year of warranty.

I was having trim issues back in the spring and turned out that my trim relay was bad. I'd test that first.

I've had good luck with starters from DB electrical so I figure a trim motor would be fine from them.

Do a Youtube search for Yamaha Outboard Tilt Trim diagnosing.
Several good videos on how to diagnose the problem.

If you are the least bit handy with tools, there is not much to the trim motors.
Mine needed new brushes, and it's as good as new.
