That's a tough decision, but what you expect in performance would make a difference.
The Helix 12 is networkable in case you want to add another unit that is networkable to share data.
The G3 Helix 7 is not networkable, so you will have two independent units. Has to be the G3N to be networkable.
A plus for the third generation units is the HW CHIRP 2D sonar.
