you should pass on any outboard with over 700 hrs on it an accident looking for a place to happen. they are good motors but most of the time folks wont spend the money to change all the filters every year that is a must.

I have seen outboards with 2000+ hours and run great. It is all in how they are treated. Maintained well, ran on correct fuel and fresh, propped correctly for the boat a HPDI will live a long life. Run poor fuel, old fuel, lug the engine and never change the filters and they will rattle the ring locating pins out of the top 2 cylinders almost assured. Also add not changing the water pump impeller when due to the list. Yam911 provided the best analogy, think about it. We have 2 300HPDI in our group that both still run very well. Both propped correctly for the boat and run on premium fuel. 1 maintained very well, 1 not so much but average I would say. way over 500+ on them. CJ
