    Hi folks,
Well last year you cranking battery took a dump and in the market for a new one, I'm looking at the Odessey agm 31or Northstar AGM 31, wou.d these big agm batteries be ok to run with this motor? I have read somewhere that they can wreak havoc on the. Motors , any help would be greatly appreciated,

Mike is that battery a pure starting battery or it dual purpose. From the single posts it appears to be a pure cranking battery which will not hold up to a full day on the water with all of the electronics we run, running livewells and using power poles. Looks like the DEKA 1231MF battery that I used to have that left me stranded on the river twice in tournaments.

I'm currently using a Crown 31HDC130 battery and it has been good. I've never tried a X2 but it's a beast. Don Weed's battery chart is here on the Mercury page: http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=20671

With the price of a X2 I'd sure like to know if one of the Ionic 125AH would work for a yamaha EFI

I have used this battery for four or five years as well as many of my friends. None of us had any trouble yet :-)

It has 185 minutes reserve capacity which is rated at 25 amp draw.

OK, maybe it's a issue with how I fish most of the time. I typically run to one spot and then spend the entire day on the trolling motor fishing. That's one reason I don't think a powerpole charge would do anything for me.

I started having issues with the DEKA 1231MF Commercial Battery when I upgraded my front depth finder to a Carbon 12. The battery was 3 yrs old at the time but was still load testing fine. Like I said, it left me stranded on the river in tournaments twice. Battery One told me it was a commercial starting battery and was not designed to run pumps, power poles and electronics all day. I haven't had any issues since switching to the Crown 31HDC130 battery I'm using now.

I really don't like the price of the X2 and have friends that have had issues with that battery. If I was going to go X2 I think I'd go lithium but too many reports of problems with the Big Yamaha's and Lithium for me to take that chance.
