More on the Johnny Morris Open Series!

Here is a more detailed advertising graphic for the recently announced Johnny Morris Open Series. I was asked to redact a web site listing in the lower right corner, because the page that it refers to is not active yet. I also do not have all the details yet, but if you fish tournaments and have one of the WRMG boats, this might perk up your ears a little. My understanding is that the “feeders” for this deal will be existing circuits/trails at the grass roots level, with multiple ways to advance. Understandably, I hope, the finer details are still being ironed out, but should be released soon. — JC

Yeah, a million. And since I’m better at catching one fish than a big bag, I’ll be trying for the big bass prize of a new pickup and bass boat to match.

So just to be clear, this is a single tournament, correct? Not an entire series sponsored by Bass Pro? That's the way I read the graphic.

I wish I knew all the details, but the single tournament definitely is the championship itself. The scuttlebutt is that there will be ways for anglers throughout the continental US to qualify. “Qualifying events” is what I would expect to hear next: the list of events [or even series], places, times, and how to register.

It looks like to me you qualify through existing circuits. Kind if like the Ranger M1 tournament 20 years ago.

I wouldn’t be surprised ^^, or maybe a hybrid model: some qualifying through existing circuits, or an alternate path through regional qualifiers [separate events] for those who don’t fish a circuit. I wouldn’t want the job of coordinating all those circuits [even just to see that they all had their “winners” submitted by a certain date], if that’s part of the equation. At the moment, I don’t know more than appears on the advertisement, but one way or the other, we should know more details soon.

I don’t know which make/model that boat is, but WRMG specified the brands that would be eligible for the championship, and that’s up to them. I also don’t see any other bass boat brands on the White River Marine home page. The others are all pontoons, etc. Maybe you mean that the boat pictured isn’t a WRMG brand? That would be an advertising gaffe, but not the end of the world. I mean, fishing is fishing.

Gotcha. I don’t recognize it from this view. Funny! No big deal. I never look at those flyers anyway. Too much junk mail in my life.
