    Project bikes this winter??

Anybody got any " project" bikes going this winter? Around here, seems to be a covid 19 pastime. Been watching the used bike market and prices seem up and people buying. I've had a few 80s ninjas in my sights but snoozed on them a bit too long. I think riding\ camping is gonna be a huge activity this year.

Lots of Harleys coming out of the barns from what I've seen for sale. Prices will be up this spring but heck, everyone is outside lately with this virus. Never seen so many people in the woods walking as I have this year. One deer stand I was in is close to a walking trail and I saw several people walking by on most days. I've had my share of project bikes. Now I just want to ride them.

I just finished a basket case 1998 kawasaki kx125. Rebuilt lower end, re-ring, all bearings cleaned and lubed, new chain and sprockets; grips, air filter and such. Just having a time jetting this thing. Then its going up for sell.

Would like to do that once or twice to get a feel for it. Only one I even took the head off of was a Yamaha DT350 two stroke street bike. Bassani Pipes and drag bars. Was a fun little bike

A yamaha 2 stroke street bike would be the holy grail right now. People are selling junk bikes for outrageous prices around here. Old 3 wheelers are hot. I might just put my bike on the highway out front with a for sale sign, see what kind of crazy price I could get for it.
I got a few dream bikes that have always been on my list. May have to start a new thread...

In the middle of a pretty serious winter here. In my travels I've seen more than a few old bikes in trucks and on trailers. I got a tip on a rare 73 Yamaha in a basement at an elderly couples house. I'm on it. Gotta get some time to investigate.

I love motorcycles, it’s in my blood, but especially old two stroke dirt / street bikes.

    What model 73 Yamaha?

I heard about this bike a while back. Finally got a friend to take me over next week. Can't recall the model. Only made 2 years.

I go by a body shop nearby that has a Yamaha RD400 in the front window with no motor. Looks mint otherwise. I almost stopped the other day but I'm sure it's probably someones project.

Stop by that body shop. Ask. Find out where the motor is.

Getting rid of of 21" laced wheel for a cast aluminum. Going from a 2.15" rim to a 3.5" so I can run a fatter tire. Found a take off wheel removed when new from a Breakout, going on my 09 Softail Custom. Wheel got damaged in shipment after being in and out for delivery from FedEx ground multiple times weather related. After a few hours of filing, sanding, polishing a little touch up paint, got it looking good. Decided to keep it with a partial refund and lucked up on deal on the size tire I wanted for half price.155281672_10221713551241565_1461010625868332943_n.jpg159475290_10221792064684352_1218067899098327977_n.jpg

I'm pretty lucky. Guy by me bought a motorcycle tire mounting and balancing set up. He's pretty much retired now so he gets lots of cash from bike tire mounting. I got some very serious rubber at about 55% off. He also put on a new chain while the wheel was off. Road for many years, on a tight budget, never could afford the good tires. With some of the amazing online tire deals, dealer visits for tires is a forgotten painful time. Previous owner had something screwed up cause front tire was really choppy. Handles great now.
My last project on the bike is electrical. Starter button has corrosion on the contacts. Can't get the screws out without stripping them. He says no problem. Also gonna have a manual fan switch installed so I can turn it on when I want. He did this on old goldwing that he commuted 100 miles a day in heavy traffic.
After that It's done. 4 year multiphase project. Only thing left to do is figure out how to post pics.

The big thing with any wrap is make sure you have a spray bottle with water or whatever they tell you to use as a lubricant and SOAK BOTH THE WRAP AND THE PART DOWN..
The wetter it is the easier it is to manipulate it. Then having a good squeegee to smooth from the center to the outside edges..
