    Old fisherman with old eyes

I find it near impossible to thread line from reel thru the level wind. My wife makes wreaths for door etc and uses green fine wire. I doubled a 10" piece pinched one end down so it would fit thru level wind then twisted the rest put a washer on the other to hold on to. You need to pull a little line from spool put throu wire loop and pinch pull thru and bingo you are in business.

Cataracts...I was scheduled last November. My "need" is borderline. I was going to have the Long/Short (each eye different) procedure.

Then, I took up Skeet and Trap shooting. Everything I read said that I would be better off with the normal two-eye (all long) procedure.

I put it off until my needs are more pronounced. Good luck.

I was amazed when I had my cataract surgery last January. I knew it was time because I could no longer see to tie my fishing knots. It was wonderfully successful. I now see perfectly out of both eyes and have no issues tying knots nor do I need glasses for anything. Good luck Bill.

Well it’s been a week now since I had cataract surgery on my right eye, and WOW!! what a difference. I guess my reduction in eyesight occurred over such a long period of time that I normalized it.
I am delaying surgery on my left eye until late March because COVID is so bad here, no reason to take a chance. I am 75 so hopefully by then I will have been vaccinated.

Congratulations Bill. It is truly miraculous that you can go in one day for outpatient surgery and the next day you have almost perfect vision.

Congratulations. Guess I'll have to get more serious about it now. Thanks for the update.

I'm in the middle of my cataract surgery due to this covid crap having the Surgery Center shut down, but for the last however many years, I've taken a 6" or so of 17# line and ran both ends thru the line guide leaving a loop exposed, then run a 6" or so of the new line thru the loop and then pull it thru the reel eye. Saves a lot of time and frustration !!! Also, when stringing a rod, I attach a 1/8 oz drop shot weight to the end and then run it thru the guides. Much easier to hold on to and if you drop it, it just falls down to the last guide rather than running all the way back to the reel !!!
