What's the coldest you would fish?

Ok, my goal this year is to get out more and fish. I was planing on fishing Friday since some say what you do new years day you will do more during the year. I will have my 6 yr old who is very whiny and I know will complain the whole time if it's too cold. Before they said it was going to be 58o but now they are saying high 40's or low 50's. Myself I don't care I've gone out when it 38 once, didn't get one bite so it sucked.

Fished a tournament a few years ago and it was 17 degrees. Water froze solid 20 yards off the bank.. Bet Jeff remembers that day.

First tournament I fished with Grand Prairie Bass Club was in February many years ago. Ice and snow on the roads when we left the house going to Lake Livingston Friday morning. Saturday was bad ass cold with bluebird skies and no wind. When you made a cast the water on your line from the previous cast would freeze in mid air and you could see the little ice shards fall to the water as the bait started to fall. I don't know how cold it was, but it was too cold to be fishing.

    It depends.

If it's cold and sunny with no wind, then I don't mind if it's pretty cold.

Soon as you add wind or rain, the temperature really needs to go.

If it's Cold, Windy and Raining forget it.

When I was younger and dumber (some say still dumb) I would go out in almost anything. Coldest in open water was -28 F and the lake was freezing up around us. Coldest ice fishing -40F w/ 40mph winds. Who knows what wind chill factor was. We rented a cabin. Heater on full blast and the groceries and toilet bowl were frozen solid the next morning. Nope, nope, nope, never again. Anything under 70 is too cold for fishing.

I do for sure ... pitched a jig at an isolated tree about 4' off shore and my jig slid right past it on the ice. Busting ice trying to get up Big Sandy.

I'm more of a fair weather fisherman, too windy or cold and I mostly not going. Today it's too cold for sure for the kiddo.

Well, got to fish some today, even if it was from the bank of Ft Richardson state park. But it was 64o this afternoon.
