Any updates on this? I'm running low on my KBS and was waiting for a verdict before I make an order. Any info would be appreciated. And thank you 21xdc for starting this thread

I’m hoping more and more people try this and post their experience.

I actually finished my first trial this AM. I did not paint any new baits but had some knock off Crankbailts that I dipped. I must say that the clear went on very smoothly, there were no runs and the clear coat dried fairly quickly.

I used KBS for the last many years, This is not as thick, I like this as I always thinned the KBS. I am two coats into my test, The cranks have dried and I must say that I have had no trouble with the clear being scratched off. Tomorrow I will put another two coats just for testing as I do not belive that 4 coats is really needed.

I will be powder coating some spinner baits tomorrow and will test the clear on these. More to come

Glad that you'all are putting forth the effort. I usually paint a large group of baits and then not paint for a few months, so storing KBS has given me fits. Would love to find a simple, inexpensive alternative (like I am the only one, right?). Please post your progress.

Please feel free to spend a small amount of money and try some yourself... The more that test it, gives a better/wider group of opinions that we all benefit from .

Hey Mike I have found that a spiral Mason jar works great
I use saran wrap of the top and put the lid on after that. I had the same quart jar for over a year.

These are the painted knock-offs with 4 coats of clear. No issues with drying, peeling or cracking. I did notice that the small divots or bumps have not filled in. Two coats of KBS and they would fill.

So far I like this product, again not sure what will happen when tested in water.

What divots/bumps? Scale pattern? It's definately thinner and shows more detail.

We can call them scales. I meant that the clear has good coverage and still shows good detail. Tap on the photo to open, then tap two more times and the zoom will show how great the detail is.

I just paint and make lures for myself and a couple friends. Thought I would give the clear a try. Sorry for the poor description, but I guess we all got the gist of it. In the near future maybe I can report shelf life and water reaction, of course the clear was made for pontoons, so you would hope it stands up to water.

Are you'all hanging it to dry or do you need to spin it?

This drys so fast, Spinning barely makes any difference because not much drips off when hanging... I have done lots of both.

Bought some and have tried it with two 1.5 square bills. I am in the drying/hardening process (trying 2 weeks). I did 3 coats dipped. Will give an update after 2 weeks on toughness etc. Easier than KBS so far. Did notice it wants to accumulate on the bottom of the dipped lure more than KBS.
