Which prop for Ranger 178 with Yamaha F70?

What is the best prop for this setup?

I dont know if this will help, but I'll throw it out there. I have a 2020 RT178 with the Mercury 75 on it. It came from the factory with a Mercury Vengeance 18p on it. It was under propped, and running 33-35 mph at 6200 rpm. I put a 19p Trophy on it and am now running 40.5 mph at 5400 rpm, and also have a lot more lift. I have no experience with the Yamaha, but I suspect a 18p would be in the ball park. I also have a 4inch manual jackplate on mine.

Thanks. Im turning 6,500 RPMS (analog dash gauge) and roughly 36 MPH. I’m wondering if mine is under propped and rev limiter kicking in. I’ve got 13 14 stamped on my stainless prop. I do realize that this boat wasn’t designed run really fast, but also want to maximize what I have.

You very well could have a bad tach. I understand there are a bunch of them in the RTs. My dealer has a new one waiting for me. Mine is showing almost 1000 rpm higher than what is showing on my Vessel View Mobile.

I would try a 15Pitch four blade mercury Spitfire.

    Tigerfanatic,

Did you ever decide on a prop?
    I have a 2017 RT178 with a Powerprop 13.24 x 16.
I run out at 35 mph (GPS) and 6400 rpm (on the tach)

Same boat different motor but similar 75hp Mercury 4 stroke. I run a spitfire X7 4 blade 17P and top speed is 39 and max rpm is 6200 get on plane around 17mph.

Thanks guys. I haven’t changed the prop yet, been busy with work lately.
