I had to drill that hole as well.
I am kinda surprised that you had to drill 2 holes. I just had to drill one in the gusset . Must be a difference in winch support

The upper bolt would not clear the tie down bracket so I actually drilled through the top edge of it. Of course the lower bolt I had to drill a hole also.

Trickstep model is TR169. I don’t think year or model boat matters so much, as the right step is determined by the winch post angle. Just so happens that some of the Stratos posts are the same angle as some of the Tritons.
