As far as I know there isn't a DF225SS. You can go a DF200SS or a DF250SS. Since you mentioned a Z20 I would go for the DF250SS. A fair amount of people here have them with great results running a solas prop. Some pros use them as well.

Suzuki does not offer a 225 with a 20" shaft. I don't believe the Z20 is rated for a 250 as they still a 225HP max rating in 06. If you are serious about repowering your boat I would look for a Merc 225 V8.

I ran into this issue earlier this year when I had to reporter my 2002 Ranger 520 VX. My old motor was an Evinrude ficht 225. Since Suzuki doesn’t make a short shaft 225 I had to go with the DF200SS SS. If you want to go fast go with a Yamaha or a Mercury. I’m 71 years old so the slower Suzuki is fine with me. It’s quiet and has great fuel economy.

Did your Ficht die? Did you throw it away?

I decided to reporter instead of replacing the lightning lower unit. (Again). The power head was fine. The dealer gave me a grand for it. He probably still has it if you need it or parts. It’s Smith Marine in Ridgeland Mississippi.
