I too prefer a longer rod. 7'9 custom. Anything less is tough to cast. I tried a DX745 Dobyns and it was a no go. I crig a lot. 3/4 oz tungsten weight and a Baby Brush hog!

    Update on my C-rig rod...
I went with the G.Loomis E6X 7'5" Hvy 894C. I used my awards points and a BP gift card. So it cost around 70.00. I paired it up with a Lews Teamlite. A great combo.

Another vote for ALX Dragger. Great rod for Carolina Rig & heavier jigs.

I have used 7' C-rig rods for years and have decided since I am only casting in open water and need the distance to go with a 7'6" which definitely casts farther. For your budget it is hard to beat a Fenwick Techna PX medium heavy. It is sensitive, light, strong, comfortable and has a lifetime warranty.

My favorite C rig rod for years was a Daiwa Denny Brauer flipping rod, it was the purplish silver one. Broke it a couple of years ago, hooked a giant catfish right at the boat using 65lb braid on the reel, he bit the worm when I was reeling in, surged, rod exploded in the middle. Still use the burgundy Brauer rod, just doesn’t feel quite the same.

I typically use 7’-7’6” rods, that Falcon Lizard Dragger is a good one. I have the LZ1 and LZ2, both work great. And the LZ1 doubles as a good frog rod. I also have an old Falcon flipping rod that works great also.

Forty years ago we fished C rigs on 5 1/2’ pistol grip rods, doesn’t seem like it would work but we still caught them.

Rod Suggestion...Now I have no experience throwing a c rig on this rod but with it being so versatile and having experience with it for frogs and wobble head jigs think it would be a great rod that is great at other techniques. Irod Gen 2 Magic Stick. or the lighter AIR version.

7’6” Kistler KLX 5 action (Heavy). Longer rod takes up the slack much quicker and sets the hook with ease. I use 20lb flouro main and 12 lb leader always tungsten so I can feel. I do like the idea of running two smaller tungsten weights with bead in between.
