What is the best way to clean crankbaits? They're not chipped or banged up it's that the finish is not as clear as when new.

I have never really cleaned a crankbait and to be honest the wore out dull ones seem to catch more fish for me.
Thanks Ranger487. I have found the same response with the older baits. I had tried several things to clean these older baits and it was apple vinegar. Used this to clean up some Shadraps I found that were pretty messed up.
I recently had some rust issues and used 3M medium cut polishing compound and it brought them back to life!
Done that, thanks man.
Toothpaste and brush
use your wifes brush!!
Put them in your dish washer and run it through with heat dry off, worked for me until my wife found out.
Magic eraser works great, but will dull the finish slightly. I like them better that way, so that's what I use when needed.
magic eraser works great
I'd try brake parts cleaner. soak them overnight and wipe with old rags.
It's worked on some tough stains---might be worth a shot.

I use nothing but MAAS metal polish, they make a few different types as they make a creme type in a can and you can also get that in a tube which is great for heavy duty applications, then they make the polish which is really very light duty, comes in a bottle which I think works best on plastic lure finishes. If you ever get that white film on a lure from sitting in tackle boxes since the 1960's I use a hair drier to heat up the surface and when the white turns clear it liquefies, I just wipe it off with a soft cloth or paper towel.

I have seen WD-40 remove the dull haze. I would avoid other stronger solvents. I would also avoid the hooks.
I’ve never tried this but I’m going to try using those efferdent tablets for dentures and see if they will clean dirty crank baits.
i just finished using a Frankland Arsenal rotary tumbler with SS pins and Dawn with some rattle trap style baits Did a real good job but be careful with the chrome ones as they always take beating and wont hold up to too much tumbling. I removed all of the hooks and left them in for a few hours.

Toothbrush and dawn soap.
I've used a ScotchBrite cloth. Also works to dull the finish on baits. I plan on buying a Dremel too to modify baits.

Spray with WD-40.! Also doubles as a fish attractor. It used to be a handout at many a bass tournament way back when.!!
