    Starter on a 1997 150 EFI

I've noticed the last few trips that sometimes the starter seems to make a "whirring" after the motor starts. Is it possible the starter
shaft is lagging behind not receding properly?

Take the gear drive off and clean and grease it good with a silicone base grease, should stop it.

In many cases, one or two drops of lightweight oil on the SHAFT will rectify this. Be careful not to get it into the drive gear.

This engine would be a 2.5L model... moving the thread to the correct forum for you.
