A piece of bass boat history

Custom Stratos 201 XL prototype hull designed and driven by Alan Stinson in the mid 1990’S to previously set two APBA and UIM world record speed records. Pro stock bass 200 @ 96.524 mph, and Pro Bass 200U @ 100.136 mph. Hull with rigging as shown , no motor or trailer. Land n sea jack plate, dual cable steering, hotfoot, built in fuel tank, bolster seats. Would make a great drag boat or custom one of a kind bass boat with a great history.

Cool looking boat. Wonder if seller has proof it is what he says it is.

If I remember correctly, Stratos built an ASX (Allen Stinson Xperimental), and you could buy one of those. It was paper thin and a rocket.

Could be fun, see what the price ends up. boat needs a bridgeport. There used to be a stratos ski boat/go fast boat moored on the sacanndaga for many years. Probably still there.

I was doing plant tours while the molds were being mocked up. A former member here took one out, said it was a bear to drive. Mind you he had a 20' Bullet at the time with a 2.6 Bridgeport. For him to tell me the ASX was tough to drive was saying something.

The original plan was to build 100 but if my memory is correct only 70 some were built. They were made from Kevlar and had a high price tag with a 225. A few were rigged with 250's but most were rigged with 225's since 250's were not that common in that era. With an extremely small pad and very light weight they were a beast to drive but could bust 80 with a 225.

When it comes to design of bass boat hulls Alan Stinson is legend in the industry. He started with with Nitro from day one, then went to Hydra Sport, then Stratos and Javelin and finished his career with Trition when Trition was a new boat brand. Along the way he built two or three different hulls just for speed. The ASX, the 201 in the link posted and I think there was another called the Velocity. The ASX was the only one mass produced and as I said there was only around 70 some made. His other concept speed hulls was just two or three boats production runs.

I knew there was a link somewhere that told most of his history. I forgot all about him designing the Skeeter Starfire hull. Also forgot he started Nitro and sold it to Johnny Morris. I knew he was with them early on but forgot he actually started the company...go about 1/3 to 1/2 way down this link to see what they say about Alan Stinson and his boat building knowledge...

In my opinion, the 201 was the best bass boat hull ever to be popped from a mold.

The hull has a strikingly similar “ cut” as my F-20
