    Powder coating aluminum brackets

If I want to powder coat an aluminum Lowrance bracket (or another brand or after market bracket) a color to match the color of my existing aluminum bezel rings on my dash, would I have to strip it down to the bare aluminum or can you do it over the existing paint or powder coat?

if I want to powdercoat a 12"x12" aluminum plate, do I need it to be polished first?

    thanks

I don’t think you polish it first.

I think it has to be brought down to bare metal.

No polish but you do have to get the old coating off.Powder coating companies will blast it first before coating.

If your bezels are anodized have the 12x12 anodized

They will sand blast off the old coating prior to coating.

Most reputable places do their own prep so they can ensure it'll stick because they will warranty it if it comes off.

    This right here ^^

You can't make powdercoating 'match' annodizing, you can only get close; they're two totally different looking finishes to the discerning eye. Also, some anodizing fades badly in direct sunlight, so keep that in mind. Some hard anodizing is incredibly durable, especially on a high-grade aluminum like 7075, in my experience, even very difficult to scratch. Powder coating can't come close.
