Place in Western Pa for a getaway

    Hey folks,

Our youngest children are in the Boston area. We usually visit a couple of times a year for a week or so, but we’d like to be able to have another shorter visit maybe halfway between us. Erie is the halfway point for us, so we’d like to find a place we could get together for a few days somewhere within a day’s drive for each of us. Looks like the area from Erie down toward Pittsburgh is in the halfway area.

Maybe a two or three bedroom cabin.

Don’t need a lot of things around to do. Quiet places are fine. Hiking and fishing would be great, but someplace where we can just hang out is fine. Even someplace we could go in the winter would be good.

    I appreciate any suggestions.

Look at the Westline Inn. While it is not a cabin, it has a old-time bar, restaurant, trout fishing stream (Kinzua Creek) out the door and hundreds of miles of hiking trails. Other things to go see in the area too...Jake’s Rock lookout, Zippo lighter factory and a Indian Reservation Casino about 45minutes away in NY.

Not much open or to do with the Covid shutting stuff down. Erie may be your best bet for something open.

I can give you some great state parks. However our great governor has some rules.

    Overnight Stays and Out-of-State Visitors

    • The Secretary of Health issued an order requiring anyone who visits from another state to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering the commonwealth.
    • If someone cannot get a test or chooses not to, they must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Pennsylvania.
    • Pennsylvanians visiting other states are required to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to their return to the commonwealth or to quarantine for 14 days upon return to Pennsylvania.

In any event this place is great my family rents a place every new years.

Might consider driving just a little further to Chautauqua/Jamestown area. Though NYs rules aren't much more pleasant:
For any traveler to New York State from a noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 or level 3 country, the new guidelines for travelers to test-out of the mandatory 14-day quarantine are below:

    • For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:
      • Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
      • The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
      • On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests comes back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.

I just left my cabin near Westline today. I did find out from the folks at the Inn that there are a couple of cabins that rent in the area. Also, there are some new breweries, distillers in the town of Kane and the long standing Flickerwood winery in the area. See the bridge at Mt Jewitt. You are also about 2 hours from Niagara Falls if you want to do a day-trip.

Sounds like an interesting area. Kids are both fans of good beer. Probably going to spring before we can even try for it.
