New trailer axle, straight vs. drop

I have a Frankenstein of a trailer for my 176 aluminum Triton. I have been nursing it along for years but finally going to make it right before it blows up on the highway. The trailer is 60” wide but has an 84” hub face to hub face axle with a 6” drop. I don’t believe that is typical for small aluminum bass boat trailers. Most that I have seen have straight axles. I’m going to swap out the axle and get new 13” wheels & tires, current tires are 14”. I could get a new drop axle, maybe 4” drop and a proper 73” length. I guess that would give me a little more clearance between the tires and fenders but also keep the trailer low. I am assuming the purpose of a drop axle is to make it easier to load and unload? Or do I just go with a straight axle? Any input would be appreciated.

If it were me, I would keep the drop if I could. Everything is easier if the boat is lower.

Thanks, makes sense. Probably should stick with what I know.
