2016 2.7L Ecoboost here...love the motor for towing a bass boat and its a blast to drive empty. Only issue was oil pan gasket leak fixed under warranty. no issues other than that. You are going to be blown away by the low end torque of the 2.7L compared to the 5.3L...its like going from gas to diesel....my previous truck was a 2003 1500 GMC Sierra w/ 5.3L

I am a die hard Ford owner. I do not think you can go wrong with any of the engines you referenced. I am an Ecoboost person and I am on my third one. 2013-129K miles, 2015-172K miles and my current 2020 has 17K miles on it. I drive them hard, because, well they are fun to drive hard, sport mode is a blast. I have had zero issues with any of them. However, the one thing I have learned with the EB, is the plugs have to be changed at 100K. Other than that, at least for me, just routine maintenance. FWIW, I love the 10 speed tranny.

For me the biggest problem with the V8s nowadays is the cylinder deactivation. Bring on the Turbo

For towing the ecoboost is a lot better. Torque curve is closer to a diesel, engines don't have to rev like the v8 to tow.

Not sure they still make my motor anymore 09' 5.4L Triton V8. This is my second Ford with this motor and will buy another if possible.

Let me just start by saying, I can afford a new truck. However, my last 3 f150s have been prior lease vehicles with around 30k miles on them. That's hardly broken in, in my view, and they cost about 45/50% less than new with quite a bit of warranty remaining.
My current f150 is a 2013 5.0 (bought in 2017) and every year about this time I load my 800# motorcycle in the bed, hook up my bass Nitro nx882, loaded with bins of clothes, both mine and our sons familys' ( as they join us for a month each year), and drive 1400 miles to our rental property in Florida. Always, at some point during the trip, I feel compelled to comment on how powerfully my truck handles the load.
Just reached 80k miles and, at 74, could be my last vehicle.
    Obviously I'm a 5.0 fan.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
    P.S.

Eco. The 5.0 has even more issues. Just check the f150 forums.

2016 F150 with the 2.7 is a blast to drive and tows my 18' Xpress easily. Mix in about 1/4 tank of non ethanol when I gas the boat up and she will get close to 25 mpg, 22 mpg otherwise.

This is exactly what my friend, a Ford salesmen, said when I bought my 2016 from him with the 5.0. So far 105K trouble free miles with good maintenance.

I did. Towing test with all three engines pulling my ranger z119c. All three engines were within .1 mpg of each other when towing and all three had the 3.55 rear end. The 3.5 had the most power when towing followed by the 5.0. Mileage empty went to the 2.7 by a few mpg and the 3.5 and 5.0 were close. All are great motors and have their following for a reason.

2.7 quickest in the 1/8 mile, both other engines pass it on the big end. Ford has put a little extra in the 3.5 and the 5.0 in the past couple of years.

Everyone has heard of the legendary 5.0. Enough said! Of course every engine has their own problems here and there. It also depends on what you are looking for. My opinion would be to look up the TSBs on each. Decide from there. Turbochargers can be costly also. But go for the 5.0!

I own a new F150 5.0 Platinum. The cylinders don’t deactivate but the engine does have auto cutoff when stopped that can be turned off with a button on the dash.
    I love my Coyote V8. It’s a beast!
