    Shimano 1000 rees line capacity

A friend of mine, yes it's really a friend not me, has some older Shimano 1000 reels. He wants to put 8lb. test on them but the rating for the reels is 2-6lb. test.
If he uses regular 8lb. mono do you think he will have problems with the performance of the line? I think it might cause more "air knots" in the spool.
    What do you think?
    Thanks

Check out Sunline's mono, 8#is same diameter as XL's 6#. I'm sure he could use 8# and not have any problems just don't over fill the spool.

He will be fine with the smaller diameter mono on series 1000 Shimano spinning reels. Like it was said, some of the products from Japan are .009 inches in diameter. He could also use 8 pound braided line that would be even thinner.

I pretty much use 1000 size reels on almost all of my set ups and I use 8# P-Line CX. Love it and can cast a mile with it. Just don't use 8# CXX. Thicker and not as limp.

I got a couple stradic 1000s run 10lb braid with 8lb sniper. Works great, and holds plenty of line. Running em for a few seasons with no issues
