    Well...need a new field knife

Lost my knife, set it on the bed rail and drove off. What do you guys recommend for field dressing? I do prefer a fixed shorter blade.

Bark river makes some fine field knives if you are willing to maintain the convex blade. Nothing wrong with the traditional buck knives as well they are great for the money spent. I like a nice 3-4” blade with a generous handle.

I’ve used a Havalon on 3 elk and 2 deer and really like them. Lots of companies making knives with exchange blade systems these days such as Browning and Outdoor Edge.

Saw a havalon in action for the first time a couple weeks ago. Helped my buddy skin out and quarter a buck, and was seriously impressed with the knife. Probably be buying myself one.

    Old Timer Sharpfinger. $13.00
Only game knife I have used for 30 years. Used on elk, moose, deer, antelope, and bear. Just the right size for all aspects of dressing game.

I buy 6 at a time and give them as gifts to my hunting buddies and there kids and they don't buy another knife after that either.

There is a huge quality difference in your 30+ year old made in the USA old timer and the cheap imports that they sell today.

I used a havalon the other day on a deer my wife shot after I dulled my blade and I was seriously impressed. I went and bought the gerber version because it was cheaper and the blade change out was easier than the havalon. I can see this knife getting a lot of use over the years.

Check out Ramshackle Homestead with Kieth and Jen. Google him. He makes knives and such. Was on Alone 7. He is a local here in Union County. He is making me an axe for my daughters boyfriend. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

This is by far the best all in one knife for hunting. Next up is the Havalon Piranta which takes the win on sharpness but isn't very rigid so you're not going to muscle through anything with it.

The 10$ mora with the red hand looks like a piece of junk kids toy but sharpen it up it'll take your finger off! I have done 3-4 antelope with mine and never touched a stone! You don't need a $100 knife
