Powerhead ID
Is there any way to identify the year of a powerhead, particularly a SHO?
Thanks

Let's start with the engine ID please. Maybe we can get there, starting with that.
Is it the assumption that the power plant has been replaced along the way? Under warranty or out of warranty?

Hi Yam.....Mine was replaced in warranty in 2012 (SHO) at 223 hours. Never thought about it until recently but wondered if it was replaced with the new "improved" powerhead or maybe a earlier model. Just assumed it was a newer one, which is a bad thing, I know. Any help for the identification would be great.
Thanks

At the time that a block is replaced Yamaha will use the latest configuration available. A -05-00 in 2012.
If the engine ID was known, and the replacement was provided under warranty, then it should be possible to confirm what dash number block was used.
Do you no longer know the ID of the motor?

Only thing I can find in my paperwork is some service bulletins for 2012
Campaign number
090VA. Cooling water volume
090VG. Thermo Housing Gasket
Oil Strainer ( 4 stroke ). Casual Part. 6CBW46240000
No description of this one....Casual Part. 6CBW009B0400
Only Primary ID shown is the s/n
Not much I know........is there anything on the block itself or any other way to identify it?
Thanks

There should be a label on the side of the motor.

I'll have to look tomorrow. Only thing I remember is the s/n & VF250LA.

Sorry for the delay Yam......haven't been able to check for the label. Is this just a stick on label or metal tag? Approximatelywhere on the motor should it be. What plastic covers do I need to remove.
Thanks
