    Knots Line to Line

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this question. I use a uni knot to tie backer line to my main line. The knot seems to be to big once I get down to it. Is there better options as the knot going through the eyes? Guess I could stop being cheap and go complete Flourocarbon.

FG knot is pretty narrow to get through guides or hollow braid splice.

the SC, Yukatan, Seaguar and GT knots are all decent options to name a few others, if you are not using micro-guides you could also try a micro-swivel like Hank Parker or Ike use

I used to use the FG knot and it is small but it takes a bit to tie. Also if you do not tie it perfectly I feel like it fails easily. I have been using the blood knot and that has worked well for me but it is not super small. I have had it going through my guides without issue.

I think J.T. Kinney's YouTube video on tying the FG knot is really good.

I used to use a uni with a 8’ leader but when I switched over to alpha angler rods with micro guides my leader knot caused lots of issues when pitching jigs when the knot came through the guides. I switched to a Alberto and it helped but still didn’t like to come through the micro guides so I ended up switching to about a 5’ leader that kept the knot out of my guides. I suppose it’s fine but I use high vis line and I would rather have longer leader so I can re tie baits several times and still stay away from the main line without having to tie a new leader. I kinda regret going to the micro guides and looking for a solution because I love the Alpha rods. Has anyone tried using some sort of glue that could be rolled into the knot that could give you a tapered knot end (bullet shaped) to kelp it slip through the guides?

I've used the FG, Crazy Alberto and Shins knot all above. I've tried every different way to tie an FG and it still takes me forever and I think I've been able to tie it once successfully on the water. I've never had a problem with the Crazy Alberto or Shins breaking. That being said the FG goes through the guides the best and have also never had the FG go bad on me either. All around it's a better knot just because it goes through the guides better so I'm going to keep practicing it.

Can a knot be tied small enough to go through the Dobyns micro guides? Or would it depend on line sizes as well. However, I can't seem to over come the micro guide challenge!!

I used to use the Shin Knot because it was so small. BUT, I've started using the Red Phillips Knot because not only is it small, but it reverses the direction of the tag ends putting the Floro pointing toward the reel and the braid toward the lure. This keeps the little Floro end from bumping the eyes on the cast and giving me a longer smoother cast.
