    SHO or Pro XS?

I'm in the market for a new outboard. Please share your thoughts on the choice between a 200 SHO and a 200 Pro XS.

Going through this process myself......Merc has several issues but cheaper option.....Yamaha cost more and would need to change my controls over....I want the Merc so I’ll wait until the bugs are worked out for now!

What are the issues with the Merc? I have virtually identical prices offered.

Matt on BTL has had hell with something on the shifting mechanism. And the worse thing is the parts are almost unobtainable.
There’s no use being stupid if you’re not willing to show it off.

Either motor would be great IMO. I would not pay the extra for the cost of controls if it required switching. If you are thinking long term you can flash the sho pretty easy if you ever wanted to.

Best to go to the 4S engine section of BBC to see for yourself....

To me, it's six of one and a half dozen of the other, no difference, except:
Yamaha max warranty is 6 years
    BUT
Mercury can go to 8 years.

Go with a Sho if u can find one. The Sho has a weaker prop shaft that is prone to bending if u hit something just right. The Merc doesn’t impress me. Same fuel economy as the 2 stroke. Ur only getting a quieter running motor. Then u have to deal with an electric shifter mechanism that’s prone to failure. That alone will leave u stranded on water needing a tow to get back. They run like 900 dollars then u have pull ur lower and motor skirts to change them. Most dealers have to keep the in stock.

I would guess that the sho would have a reliability edge, since that outboard has been out a while. The Mercury v8 sounds awesome though and 8 year warranty available. Really can’t go wrong with either.

i have a mercury 175XS on order rite now,$1000 cheaper than the SHO.I was in the market and thinking SHO,warranty offered now is better,BUT must take delivery by sometimes in March to get the extended warranty.Told my dealer to order me one,Big problem !!!!!! Lead time best delivery date sometime in JULY, Now Merc and Yamaha will have the same warranty after March,so I ordered Mercury.
